馃 TMP softball splits doubleheader with Hoisington

HAYS - The TMP-Marian Monarchs softball team earned a split of a home doubleheader with the Hoisington Cardinals Tuesday at the TMP softball field.

TMP rallied from a deficit in game one, scoring four times in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to a 6-3 victory. But in game two the Monarchs were held to just two hits in a 10-0 Hoisington win.

GAME 1: TMP 6, Hoisington 3
In the first game of the doubleheader the Monarchs got onto the scoreboard first win Brooke Koenigsman tripled to right scoring Halle Dreiling with two out putting TMP up 1-0.

Bria Windholz led off the bottom of the second inning with a double and later scored on an error giving TMP a 2-0 lead.

Hoisington though answered right back with two runs in the top of the third tying the game at two.

The game would stay that way until the Cardinals took a 3-2 lead on a two-out single in the top of the fifth inning.

Trailing by one the Monarchs did all their damage with two outs, Brooke Koenigsman, Bria Windholz and Nicole Schumacher had three straight RBI singles and TMP scored on an error giving the lead for good and a 6-3 victory.

Brooke Koenigsman and Bria Windholz each finished two-for-three at the plate. Koenigsman drove in two runs and Windholz scored two.

Brynn Rebel earned the win for TMP. She allowed three runs, just one earned with six strikeouts in seven innings.

GAME 2: Hoisington 10, TMP 0
In the second game of the doubleheader, Hoisington starter Ellie Crawford held the Monarchs to just two hits, while striking out 10 in the 10- victory.

TMP didn鈥檛 advance a runner past second in the game.

Hoisington scored two runs in the first, three more in the second and four in the fourth.

Hannah Rose and Brooke Koenigsman collected the two hits for TMP.

Bria Windholz suffered the loss for TMP. She allowed 10 runs, eight earned, on 10 hits with six walks and two strikouts in six innings.

The Monarchs are now 12-4 and will host Hays on Thursday.
