Martin B. McCullough, Wallace, KS passed away on May 1st, 2024, five days after his 68th birthday at Hope Springs Care Center in Sharon Springs, KS. Marty was born in Wichita, KS on April 26th, 1956, in Wesley Hospital to Printis McCullough and Gladys Marie Barker. After his father’s death Marty’s mother and sister moved to Tribune, KS, where she remarried Phil Bryant. Marty’s two-year older sister, Gail Ann, passed away when she was a Senior in High School from an automobile accident.
Marty spent most of his life after high school in Wallace County. He worked as a mechanic and carpenter and spent many years as the Certified Water Operator for the town of Wallace. He loved his workshop and spent hours either fixing or making things. He was a fine cabinet maker and could build anything from a child’s drawing desk to a house. He was a perfectionist. In his younger life one of his pride and joys was his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, memories of his travels and mementos of that bike he kept forever. When he wasn’t in his woodshop or working on his truck or boat, Marty was fishing! One of his favorite fishing lakes was Lake Winnibigoshish, Minn. Marty’s life was cut short by an incurable degenerative disease that he battled for over a decade.
Marty’s best years were spent with his grandson, Layne, when they created memories that keep Marty company for many years. Marty learned to use a computer so he could see the photos of his daughter, Naomi and her children with their horses or on other grand adventures through life. Marty’s legacy lives on in his clever carpentry work across Wallace County.
Marty is survived by daughter Naomi Walls, Sharon Springs, KS and grandchildren, Layne McCullough and significant other Nedra Star of Dewey, OK, Quincie Walls and fiancé Shelby Taylor, of Delaware, OK and Tehya Walls of Caney, KS.
You are invited to join family and friends at Pleasant Valley Ranch one mile south of Wallace, KS, on Sunday, May 19th, 2024, for a celebration of life for Marty McCullough from 2-4 pm MT. Provided will be homemade ice cream and refreshments. Marty had a great love for baking pies and in his honor, if you are moved to do so, please bring a pie to share and a favorite story of Marty.
