The hot, dry weather has prompted Russell County to enact a burn ban. Russell County Commissioners made the declaration Monday the request of all the fire chiefs in Russell County. All outdoor burning is prohibited until further notice. Russell County is among the Kansas counties declared by Governor Brownback to be in a Drought Warning.

Construction is underway on a fuel center at the 27th and Hall Dillons. A Dillons spokesperson says customers have been asking for a fuel center at the west store. The center will service 10 vehicles at five pumps, providing both gasoline and diesel. The fuel center is scheduled to open in early fall.
Four bids were received for a new ambulance, and the Ellis County Commission Monday night approved the bid from Rocky Mountain Emergency Vehicles. EMS Director Kerry McCue says the bid includes some devices to help the crew including passenger restraints. The bid price is approximately $147,500.
