Jack and his family moved to Jetmore in 1943. He attended grade school and graduated from Jetmore High School in 1954. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church since 1943 and was a trustee for many years. Jack was also a member of the VFW and The American Legion. Jack joined the Air Force in 1956. Jack served 21 years and received several medals during this period he was the most proud of the Bronze Star and the Air Force Commendation.
After retiring from the Air Force, Jack worked at the VA Medical Center in Ft. Lyons, CO. He retired from there after 191/2 years. He worked at Nusser Chevy in Jetmore for several years. Jack really enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing golf.
On January 26, 1989, he married Myrna Jarvis, she passed away February 22, 2009. Survivors include, a sister, Janis Carder and late husband Royce of Thorton, CO. Nephew, Jody Carder, of Thorton, CO, a Nephew, Jeff Rabe and family of Texas. Don and Teri Stieben of Jetmore, KS, Lindsey (Stieben) Mong and husband Ean and two sons, Owen and Myles of Wakeeney, KS, and several cousins. John (Jack) was proceeded in death by his parents, a brother and wife.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Presbyterian Church, Jetmore, with Rev. Mark Durham presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Beckwith Funeral Home, Jetmore. Burial will be in the Fairmount Cemetery with military graveside rites.
