One-Hundred and six players opened football camp with the Fort Hays State football team Monday morning at Lewis Field. The practice is the first of a week of camp and three and a half weeks before the Tigers open up the regular season at home against Emporia State.
Fort Hays State opens the third year under head coach Chris Brown looking to improve on last season’s 5-6 finish and a 4-6 record in the MIAA .
The Tigers return just eight starters from 2012, four on offense and four on defense. Two key players back this year are running backs Andre and Ed Smith, after both went down with season ending injuries early last year.
The pair combined for 1,711 rushing yards in 2011.
