The Hays Eagles were held to just three singles as they lose 11-0 to the Texarkana (AR) Razorbacks Friday morning at the American Legion Mid-South Regional in North Little Rock, Arkansas. The game was called after seven innings due to run rule. The Eagles (27-19) are eliminated with the loss, going 0-2 at the tournament.
The Razorbacks scored a run in the second with a a bases loaded walk. They added two in the third to go up 3-0. A two-out, two-run single in the fourth pushed the lead to 5-0. Texarkana then blew the game open with sixth in the sixth. Two of the runs scored on passed balls, another on a bases loaded balk and one on a steal of home.
Dan Bittel, Hayden Hutchison and Layne Downing accounted for the Eagle hits as they were held to two runs in the their two games.
Downing takes the loss, allowing five runs on five hits over 3 2/3 innings, striking out three and walking six.
Hays’ best scoring chance came in the first when they had two on with one out, but Chandler Rule struck out and Layne Downing grounded out to end the inning. The Eagles never had a runner past first the rest of the game.
