The Hays City Commission has schedule a public meeting on the 2014 City Budget. Thursday night the Commission set the public meeting for August 22nd. The proposed budget has a mill levy of 25.000 and City Manager Toby Dougherty said the overall proposed budget is $35.98 million.
Dougherty said, “We are very happy with this budget. General fund operating expenditures are only slightly higher than they were last year.”
According to Dougherty, the budget is balanced and they are continuing to focus on “pay as you go” for capital projects. They have also budgeted to replace some water lines and to pay off the note on the CVB building next year. There will be a complete breakdown of the budget at the public meeting.
The Commission also approved a bid to stain and seal wood surfaces at the Hays Aquatic Park. Director of Parks, Jeff Boyle said that the process is needed to increase the life expectancy of the wood structures.
The Commission approved hiring Dale Schmidt Handyman and Painting for an amount of $24,000 dollars. The bid came in $6,000 dollars under budget and Boyle said last time the process was done it cost $21,600.
