The Hays Larks overcame an early five-run deficit to beat the Dodge City A’s 6-5 Thursday night at Larks Park to run their winning streak to seven. Hays improves to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the Jayhawk League where they hold a one-game lead over Wellington who they begin a three-game weekend series with in Wellington Friday night. The A’s drop their seventh straight and fall to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in the Jayhawk League.
The Larks tied the game on a Cody Daily home run in the sixth then took advantage of two errors in the seventh and scored the game winner on a Desmond Roberts single.
Zair Koeiman hit a two-run single in the third and Mackenzie Handel hit a two-run homer in the fifth.
Ian Bentley threw three scoreless innings of relief to get the win after starter Jeff Chesnut allowing all five runs on five hits while walking five over the first three innings. David Owen worked around two ninth inning walks to pick up his first save.
