The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers scored the first 13 points and never looked back in a 70-57 win over Lincoln in the first-round of the MIAA basketball tournament at Gross Coliseum. It’s FHSU’s second win over the Blue Tigers in five days and their first in four tries in the MIAA tournament. They improve to 21-6 and will now play Northeastern State in the quarterfinals at 8:15pm Friday night at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City. Lincoln ends their season 11-16.
The Lady Tigers, led by double-figures the entire first half, were up as many as 18 and by 11 at halftime. Lincoln pulled within seven early in the second half, but FHSU responded with a 17-5 run to push the lead to 19 with 8:39 to play. The Blue Tigers would never get any closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Kate Lehman led the Lady Tigers with 22 points, Kate Edwards added 13 along with a season-high 14 rebounds. Traci Keyser hit three first half three-pointers and scored nine points and grabbed a season-high seven boards.
