One of the two Ellis County Commission seats up for election this year will have a primary race next week. Lifelong residents Alan Gabel and Dennis Pfannenstiel are vying for the democratic nomination in the second district. Gabel says he’s willing to work hard for the county.
Pfannenstiel spent eight years on the county commission and says he missed public service.
Both candidates say they are in favor of wind energy, expanding the jail and setting aside dedicated tax dollars for road projects. Pfannenstiel says a sales tax to fund county projects is a great idea. Gabel says the county would have to have a solid plan for the money before he’d support a sales tax.
The primary is Tuesday. The winner will face current city commissioner Republican Barbara Wasinger.
