Thomas More Prep – Marian will try to get out of a slump tonight as they host Cimarron at Lewis Field Stadium at 7PM.
Since starting the season 3-0, the Monarchs have lost two straight games to LaCrosse and Hoisington. TMP (3-2), who has averaged 32 points per game this year, has yet to score in the second half the last two weeks.
A few changes for the Monarchs this week, as they will start Dylan Gottschalk at tailback. Gottschalk has only received two carries the entire season, but coach Jon Borer mentioned Gottschalk has been running hard in practice this week and deserves a chance. The Herd would definitely like to see an improvement in the running game that was only able to produce 14 yards rushing last Friday against Hoisington. Also, slot receiver Dylan Schumacher will be out due to a hand injury so freshman Nick Schmidt will start in his place. Senior quarterback Nick Hammeke who has thrown for over 1,300 yards this year may even see some time on defense tonight with the absence of Schumacher.
Cimarron brings in a 2-3 record to Lewis Field. The Bluejays squeaked out a 46-40 win last week against Larned. Cimarron is fairly balanced as their senior quarterback Tyler Siek has thrown for 547 yards so far this year and they have another bruising tailback in Alex Neuschafer. Neuschafer is averaging 123 yards rushing per game and is coming off a four-touchdown performance last week against Larned.
This is just the 4th all-time meeting between these schools. The Bluejays lead the series 2-1 and won last year 40-14 in Cimarron. Listen to the Fort Hays Auto Sales Pregame Show tonight starting at 6:30 on 14 KAYS. Kickoff set for 7:00.
