Nineteen-year-old Joaquin De Anda pleaded guilty Wednesday in Finney County District Court to first-degree murder. The Garden City Telegram reports charges of rape and sodomy were dropped in exchange for the plea.
De Anda admitted inviting Julia Quintana, of Deerfield, to his home to watch a movie on Dec. 13, 2008. At some point he attacked and choked her, then took her body outside and dumped it in a trash bin.
The victim was a former classmate of De Anda at Garden City’s New Outlook Academy.
Sentencing will be scheduled later. Prosecutors said they’re asking for the so-called “Hard 50” – a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 50 years.
