Ellis County unemployment rate creeps up again in February; still low

Unemployment in the state inched up in February to 2.7 percent from 2.6 percent in January, according to the latest report from the Kansas Department of Labor.

Unemployment remains low across northwest Kansas with all counties below 3.3 percent with the exception of Trego County at 4.7 percent and Graham County at 3.8 percent.

Ellis County is at 2.4 percent.

Seasonally adjusted job estimates for Kansas indicate total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 3,600 from January. Total nonfarm includes private sector and government employers. Private sector jobs increased by 3,800 over the month, while government decreased by 200.

Since February 2023 Kansas' seasonally adjusted total nonfarm jobs have increased by 13,000. This change is due to an increase of 8,700 private sector jobs and an increase of 4,300 government jobs.
