馃 Hays High drops a pair of games on Senior Day

HAYS - Hays High hosted their final games of the regular season on Tuesday at the Bickle-Schmidt Sports Complex. Prior to the Indians' second game Haley Rees, Lakyn Zimmerman, Dezarae Schmidt and Aubree Thomas were honored for Senior Day.

Andover Central and Salina South were in town for games. Hays played Andover Central in the first game. That was followed by Andover Central and Salina South. Hays finished off the day versus Salina South.

The Indians had the best chance to score through the first three innings. Lauren Klein and Aubree Thomas led off the third inning by reaching base. They were left stranded at second and third following a double steal.

Andover Central marked a single tally in the fourth and fifth inning. A solo home run in the fourth gave the Jaguars a 1-0 lead. An run scoring double added a run in the fifth.

Hays saw the lead grow in the seventh. The Indians committed four errors as Andover Central collected three more hits. The top of the seventh yielded four runs for the Jaguars and the final difference of 6-0.

The loss went to Aubree Thomas who pitched five innings. She allowed two runs on five hits and struck out three. Riley Dreher pitched two innings and allowed four runs but just one was earned.

Andover Central's Peyton Converse took the victory pitching all seven innings. She allowed six hits, no runs, walked one and struck out four.

The Jaguars improved to 15-10 with the win.

Salina South 12, Hays 1 (5 innings)
Salina South hit four home runs in the fifth inning and five for the game in a 12-1 run-rule victory over Hays High.

An error by Hays and three South singles contributed to a 2-0 lead for the Cougars after the first inning.

Aubree Thomas cut the lead in half with a solo home run in the bottom of the third. It was her first home run on the season.

South answered right back with a two-run home run in the fourth for a 4-1 advantage. They piled on eight runs in the fifth. The Cougars hit two solo shots and a pair of two-run homers. The Indians also committed an error that led to two more runs and the final score of 12-1.

South recorded 14 hits with seven of those being for extra bases. They had a pair of doubles in addition to the five home runs.

Hays drops to 15-9 on the season. They will face Salina South and Manhattan in Manhattan on Thursday to close the regular season. South is 16-8. They beat Andover Central 3-0 earlier in the day. The Jaguars leave Hays with a 15-11 record.
