Deadline nears for KDOT’s annual youth poster contest

If you’re a Kansas kid age 5 to 13, you could win some great prizes in the Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day poster contest. Three statewide winners will receive family packages at Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City and $50 gift cards from Dillon’s of Kansas.

Also, 18 regional winners in the six regions and age groups (ages 5 to 7, 8 to 10 and 11 to 13) each will receive a bicycle and a helmet donated by Safe Kids Kansas.

Entries must be postmarked by Sept. 19 and should be mailed to AAA Kansas, Public Affairs, 3545 SW 6th St., Topeka, KS, 66606. On the back of the 8.5-by-11-inch paper entry must be the child’s full name; age at time of entry; mailing address; county; a parent’s name; and contact phone number. Put the Brakes on Fatalities Day is a nationwide effort to increase roadway safety and reduce traffic fatalities.

2013 winners from northwest Kansas were Dashiell Brown, Quinter; Jessica Schroeder, Victoria; and Kallie Leiker, Hays.
