Clara L. Walters

Clara L. Walters, 85, Hays, died Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Hays Good Samaritan Society.

She was born June 17, 1929 in Hays the daughter of Frank and Mary (Basgall) Bollig. On September 13, 1948 she married Fidelis “Archie” Walters in Hays. He preceded her in death on October 28, 2006. 

She worked at Montgomery Wards, the Ellis County Appraisers Office, and was a former Director of the Community Assistance Center.  She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, the VFW Auxiliary, the Perpetual Adorers, and was a Hays High School graduate in 1947. 

She enjoyed music, socializing with friends and family, and adored babies and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Howard Walters of Colorado Springs, CO, two daughters Kathleen Jacobs and husband Jerry and Cyndy Doerfler and husband Charlie, all of Hays, a brother Marion Bollig and wife Shirley of Hays, eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, Timothy Walters and Steven Walters, a daughter in law, Murita Rose Walters, five brothers, Robert, Elmer, Leonard, Frank, and Cecil Bollig, and five sisters, Marcella McCollum, Frances Wooldridge, Celestine Obholz, Helen Knowles, and Margaret Hazelton.

Funeral services will be at 9:30 am on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church.  Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 5:00 until 8:00 pm on Sunday and from 8:30 am until 9:15 Monday, all at the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine.  A Perpetual Adorers rosary will be at 6:00, a Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30, followed by a parish vigil service at 7:00 pm, all on Sunday at the funeral home. 

Memorials are suggested to the Community Assistance Center or to TMP-Marian High School, in care of the funeral home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.haysmemorial.com
