Paint-A-Thon committee primed for applicants

The Hays Rotary Club is looking for two houses to scrape, prime and paint in Hays — and it is all for free.
Organizers of the fourth annual Paint-A-Thon now are accepting eligible applications from homeowners in need of having their houses painted.
Eligible applicants must be low-income seniors — 60 years or older — or anyone who has a permanent disability.
Rotary board member and Paint-A-Thon committee chair, Scott Braun said involvement in the event is heartwarming.
“Last year was my first time as chair, and it was a very enlightening and humbling experience,” Braun said. “I found it very gratifying, and I know every volunteer feels the same way to see that smile and that big thanks from people.”
He said more than 100 volunteers from the Fort Hays State University organization Tigers in Service make sure both houses are painted in one day.
“It is truly amazing … simply because when you think of volunteers, you tend to think of older people, but these are young people that step forward because they want to provide the community a service,” Braun said. “It’s actually overwhelming.”
Braun said paint, supplies and pizza are provided by local businesses.
To apply for the free house painting, call Braun at (785) 625-1069 or email email@example.com.
Braun said once an application is submitted, Rotary members will contact the applicant and determine eligibility.
The deadline for applications to be received is Sept. 8 by 5:00 p.m., and the Paint-A-Thon is scheduled for Sept. 13.
