It comes as no surprise the typical college student rarely has money for the the “extras” such as manicures or even haircuts.

The Hays Academy of Hair Design is hoping a new event scheduled for Tuesday, August 19, will help send local college students back to school in style.

The ‘Back to School’ event will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the HAHD parking lot, 1214 E. 27th St.

HAHD Marketing Director Len Melvin said the academy has provided free haircuts for the elementary kids for years, and this year for the first still will a similar event will be geared towards college students.

“We have always tried to somehow get involved with the university, the college. For one, most of our students are university-aged, and we just think it is a good fit for our students to meet other students, ” said Melvin.  “It’s an opportunity to welcome college students to Hays.”

Melvin said a live band will be performing and FHSU’s Dr. Jeff Burnett,  associate professor of health and human performance, will deliver a message to the crowd.

Other free services to be offered include eye-brow waxes, manicures, make-up application, and nail shellac.  Attendees can also register for prizes.
