Wednesday, Aug. 13, noon: Feed & Film — Come join the HPL over your lunch hour and watch the documentary “Tiny: A Story About Living Small.” Learn about the lives and stories of “Tiny Housers” that live in homes smaller than the average parking spaces. Bring your lunch, we provide refreshments.
5 p.m.: Learn to Cook Bierocks! — This class is for adults who want to learn how to make the classic Volga-German favorite: Bierocks! Learn how to prepare this wonderful meat and cabbage delicacy. We’ll be cooking the filling and baking the bierocks right in the library. There is only room for 10 participants, so please register in advance by calling (785) 625-9014.
Sunday, Aug. 17, 2 p.m.: Live Music by Rupert Wates. Enjoy a wonderful afternoon at the HPL with the sounds of Rupert Wates. This melodic folk singer/songwriter is sure to bring joy to your ears and hearts. Entertaining for any age, get here early before the seats are gone.
Wednesday, Aug. 20, noon: Feed & Film — Come join the HPL over your lunch hour and watch the documentary “Secrets of Underground London.” Watch the stark contrast of the booming metropolis with an underground world. Bring your lunch and discover the dark side of this beautiful city.
5 p.m.: Kansas Reads! Family Edition — Join the Children’s Department and the Kansas Room for our first Family Read program. Families that participate will be treated to free pizza, a story time read and craft, and a free copy of the book. We’ll be reading and giving away “The Loudest, Fastest, Best Drummer in Kansas” by Marguerite Davol. Spaces are limited to the first 10 families who register, so please register by Aug. 15. Friday, Aug. 22, 7 p.m.: Post-It Note Art Show — Experience the variety of colorful young talent at the HPL. This simple concept involves accumulating tiny pieces of art to create a wall-sized mosaic installation. The show will be opening at 7 p.m. during the Fall Gallery Walk. The show will remain on display until Sept. 22. Check out the other exhibits in the HPL during the annual Fall Art Walk. The HPL will be showcasing Katherine Allyn Perez in a show entitled “Disintegration” featuring charcoal drawings and Carol Heiman’s intricate Zentangle drawings.
