2014 has been a most memorable year due to all the weather conditions being experienced here on the High Plains Prairie of Kansas. It has brought forth many challenges from drought and flooding, diseases, insect invasions, temperature extremes. It is fortunate we are adaptable.
You are invited to attend the annual Horticulture Evening on Thursday, Aug. 14 at the Ag Research Center, 1232 240th Ave., Hays. Yes, the event is quite early this year. This date has availed several speakers since it is prior to the start of the fall semester.
The evening will begin in the flower trial garden near the main entrance of the Research Center. The remaining events will be held in the air-conditioned auditorium. A light hot dog supper will be provided, thanks to our sponsors: Hays Greenhouse and the Hays Westlake Ace Hardware.
Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with the event starting at 6 p.m. After registration, browse the flower and vegetable trials. Later, there will be water conservation information and other displays in the auditorium building.
Bring questions and experiences to share with the group. A brief question and answer session will follow each presentation. The speakers will be available after their presentations for more information.
