Larks rally to advance to NBC World Series semifinals
The Hays Larks score five runs in the bottom of the eighth as they rally for a 7-3 win over the Haysville (KS) Aviators and advance to the semifinals of the 80th NBC World Series at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita. The Larks improve to 33-14 overall and 4-1 in the tournament. They will face the Seattle (WA) Studs in the semifinals at 8:30pm Friday night. The Studs knocked off the NJCAA National Team 3-1 earlier in the day.

Tyler Detmer started the eighth inning rally with a leadoff triple into the gap in right center field. He scored the tying run when Derek Birginske singled to left through a drawn in infield. Zair Koieman followed with a double then Tyler Albert was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Aaron Cornell put the Larks ahead for good with a triple to straight away center field, scoring three. He would eventually score on a Derrick Mount sacrifice fly for the final margin.
Haysville scored in the third to take the early 1-0 lead. The Larks grabbed the lead with two in the fourth on RBI singles from Zair Koeiman and Aaron Cornell.
DJ Carr picks up the win in relief, retiring all five that he faced. Starter Nick Goza struck out a career-high eight, allowing three runs on six hits while walking just one.
Haysville, who advanced to the Championship Week but going 4-0 in the First Week of the tournament, finishes their season 34-21 and goes 6-2 at the NBC, tying for fifth place. They finish the season 3-4 against the Jayhawk League.
