Hays High lands five on All-WAC softball team; Hearld Player of the Year

Led by Player the Year Hannah Hearld, the Hays High softball team landed five players on the All-Western Athletic Conference team. Hearld led the Indians with a .554 batting average, eight home runs and 34 runs batted in. She tied for second on the team with seven doubles. In the circle the junior finished 17-2 with a 1.54 ERA, striking out 181 in 120 innings pitched while walking just 29.

Hearld is joined on the First Team by senior catcher Haley Wells and sophomore third baseman Tessa Stickel. Wells hit .451 with seven doubles and 27 runs scored. Stickel hit .443, driving in 22 and scoring 24 runs.

Kaylie Schoendaller and Julie Balzer are honorable mention picks.

The Indians finished the 2014 season 18-5 losing to Kapaun Mt. Carmel in the 5A state quarterfinals.
