KFIX Rock News: Jimi Hendrix Estate Announces Plans To Produced Authorized Biopic
Experience Hendrix LLC, the family-owned company that oversees the rights to Jimi Hendrix’s music and image, has announced plans to produce a completely authorized biographical film about the late guitar legend.
The company, which is run by Hendrix’s sister Janie, signed a long-term agreement to collaborate with talent and literary agency ICM Partners on the project.
Unlike the new Hendrix biopic Jimi: All Is by My Side, which got its U.S. premiere on Wednesday at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, the new production will have full access to the iconic rocker’s catalog of songs.
“We’re delighted to be associated with ICM Partners on this project that’s been a long time coming,” says Janie Hendrix in a statement. “Our concern has always been that any biography of Jimi that employs his music be held to the very highest standard of cinematic excellence. His musical legacy deserves no less.”
She adds that ICM “are ideal insofar as they completely understand that the use of his music in such a film is a monumental responsibility that will resonate through generations to come as Jimi’s artistry has since the 1960s.”
Jimi: All Is by My Side wasn’t able to obtain the rights to use any of Hendrix’s original music, instead including cover songs the guitarist recorded and performed, as well as classic tunes by other well-known artists of the late 1960s.
