HHS qualifies three for 5A state wrestling; TMP sending two in 3-2-1A

Hays High has three wrestlers headed to the 5A state tournament and TMP-Marian has qualified for two for 3-2-1A which get underway Friday.

The Indians Preston Weigel won the regional title at 195 Saturday in Wichita. Ethan Deterding finished second at 182 and Vincent Scott at 285.

Tucker Rhoades and Ricky Hockett qualified for the Monarchs. Rhoades finished third at 113 and Hockett fourth at 120 at the Trego Regional.

Ellis has three headed to state. Dalton Hensley finished second at 120, Jared Pfeifer third at 160 and Skyler Tebo fourth at 220.

Plainville also has three qualified after Dylan Wiesner won the regional title at 170 and Trevor Desaire (152) and Adam Gehring (152) both finished fourth.

The 3-2-1A state tournament will once again be held at Gross Coliseum in Hays. The 5A state tournament will take place at Hartman Arena in Park City.
