KFIX Rock News: Bruce Springsteen Sheds Light On Forthcoming Album, Possible US Concerts In 2014
“When I go into my studio, I’m surrounded by all my music that I haven’t released,” Springsteen tells Rolling Stone. “I wait to see what’s going to speak to me.”
What spoke to him recently was an assortment of originals and covers he says “were relatively current and had a similar sound picture,” so Springsteen revisited and recorded a batch for his new album, High Hopes, due January 14.
Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, who since 2008 has been appearing on stage with Springsteen, performs on six of the High Hopes tracks.
“He jolted those songs into the now,” Springsteen says. “He’s one of the few guitarists that creates a world by himself. It’s like The Edge or Pete Townshend or Johnny Marr.”
Morello will join Springsteen and the E Street Band for a tour that begins January 26 in South Africa and also includes dates in Australia and New Zealand.
As for U.S. concert run in 2014, Springsteen says, “I don’t want to say ‘yes’ because I don’t want to disappoint people, but I certainly don’t want to rule it out, either. We’re looking closely out at since there’s places we missed on the last tour.”
