KFIX Rock News: The Who To Embark On “Last Old-Fashioned, Big Tour” In 2015

whoin2Pete Townshend caused a bit of a media frenzy recently when he announced that The Who’s next tour will be the U.K. rock legends’ last major trek.

Now, singer Roger Daltrey has come forward to clarify his longtime band mate’s statements, while sharing some details about the planned trek.

Daltrey tells RollingStone.com that the tour, which will kick off in 2015, will indeed be The Who’s “last old-fashioned, big tour,” while noting that it won’t mark the group’s 50th anniversary as had been suggested.

He also insists that the veteran rockers have no intention of calling it quits after wrapping up the trek.

“We intend to go on doing music until we drop, but we have to be realistic about our age,” maintains the 69-year-old frontman.

“The touring is incredibly grinding on the body and we have to draw a line in the sand somewhere.”

Regarding The Who commemorating the half-century milestone, Daltrey points out, “Our anniversary is actually right now.  We were the Who 50 years ago this month.  To us, 2015 is just another year.”

Roger reports that rather featuring a theme like the band’s recent Quadrophenia and More outing, the upcoming tour will simply see The Who focusing on playing popular selections from throughout its catalog.

He also says that the group likely won’t feature too many rarities in their set, explaining, “We will always sell more tickets if we play the hits [and the] economics of the road, obviously, demand that you sell a lot of tickets.”

As for what the future will hold for The Who beyond the next trek, Daltrey says he’d like to see the group explore new ways of staging shows.

“Maybe that means sitting down in a theater for a couple of weeks,” he suggests.  “That means you travel to once place, but you’re stationed there.”

Roger also reveals that The Who still is hoping to record another studio album.
