USD 489 Says Goodbye to Roth

Retiring USD 489 Superintendent Will Roth shakes hand with school board president Greg Schwartz

Monday night was the final USD 489 Board of Education meeting for Superintendent Will Roth.

Roth is retiring after 28 years with the Hays school district.

Board president Greg Schwartz presented a gift to Roth, who then shook hands with all the board members.

Roth started his district career as principal of Felten Middle School in 1985.  He became assistant superintendent for curriculum in 1992, and was named superintendent in 2010.

During Monday’s meeting, the board tabled the decision about choosing a firm to search for a permanent superintendent.  Dean Katt’s contract as interim superintendent runs through September 2014.

whatever. i think the board finally figured out roth was the wrong guy to put into a position of super. and it still would be interesting to know why they asked him to resign? what was the deal with his contract not being the same one the school board originally signed. so instead of laying all the cards on the table in front of the taxpayers lets give the guy a gift and a handshake and a heck of a retirement package and send him packing. roth will go down as one of the luckiest guys to ever get to the position of super and not be qualified for it.

Hopefully they said “goodbye” and not “goodby”, because that would sound really dumb.

Funny stuff. Oh the rich irony since it was a Board of Education meeting.

Or was it a “Bored of Education” meeting?
