City Commission to Vote on On-Street Bike Routes

The Hays City Commission will meet tonight at  6:30 pm.  Among the items on the agenda:

5. 2013 UNIFORM PUBLIC OFFENSE CODE:
ACTION REQUESTED: It is the recommendation of City staff that the Commission approve Ordinance No. 3870 adopting the 2013 version of the Uniform Public Offense Code for Kansas Cities for use within the City of Hays.

  • Sec. 200 – Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance includes an amendment to the law that will help law enforcement keep pace with modern technology by allowing drivers to show proof of insurance using their cell phones, tablets, or even laptops instead of traditional paper. This will be a more convenient way for our citizens to maintain their insurance information.

9. LEVEE IMPROVEMENTS – ENGINEERING DESIGN SERVICES AGREEMENT:
ACTION REQUESTED: Direct the City Manager to execute a contract with Wilson & Company for levee engineering services in the amount of $49,500 to be funded out of the Stormwater Utility’s Project Line Item.

10. BIKE HAYS – ON-STREET BIKE ROUTE ENGINEERING DESIGN AGREEMENT:
ACTION REQUESTED: Consider authorizing the City Manager to enter an agreement with CFS Engineers for the design of the on-street bike routes in the amount of $48,400 to be funded out of Capital Projects.

    we have trails along big creek.
    we have outstanding trails at Wilson lake.
    one can ride to Ellis, Antonio, Munjor, Plainville,…
    I find it easy to commute all over Hays and Ellis county on a bike.
    Why do we need to spend money?

      UT, I emailed commissioners many times with similar remarks only one commissioner responded he wasn’t around to when the Comprehensive Plan was voted on. This comes from a Hays Compressive Plan survey that was online. Approx. 250 citizens responded to it. That made the whole Comprehensive Plan a mandate for the rest of us.
