KFIX Rock News: Promoter Considers Springsteen, Bon Jovi, & Billy Joel For Super Bowl Halftime

superbowl2The next Super Bowl will be played in February at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

While there’s been plenty of speculation about who might perform at the big game’s halftime show, the NFL isn’t saying anything.

But that isn’t stopping local concert promoters from listing the acts that they think would make sense for the first-ever Jersey Super Bowl.

The Star-Ledger reports that one promoter suggests a Jersey version of the Three Tenors, with Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Southside Johnny, while another wants to see a huge Jersey Rock ‘n Roll Revue, including Bruce, Bon Jovi, Dionne Warwick, Kool & the Gang and Frankie Valli — “an amazing mash-up of brilliant Jersey-born-and-raised musicians,” as he puts it.

Still another top promoter says, “I’d love to see Billy Joel. Even more than Bruce, he’s a working-class hero. And at the [Hurricane] Sandy Benefit [last year], he stole the show.”  Adds the promoter, “His shows are infrequent, and that’s a real advantage. It makes it that much more special.”

Besides, the promoter points out, the NFL doesn’t like to repeat halftime performers, and Bruce performed in 2009.  Billy has twice sung the anthem at the Super Bowl but has never done halftime.

One promoter thinks he has the answer: Joel, Springsteen and Jon Bon Jovi and all playing one after another in three different indoor venues around the New York/New Jersey area, in a performance that would be simulcast to MetLife Stadium.

Some out-of-the-box suggestions, reports The Star-Ledger, include Train, Taylor Swift, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and the Cirque du Soleil troupe.
