KFIX Rock News: Former Guns ‘N’ Roses Drummer Protests Dolphin Hunt

soruminTOKYO (AP) – Drummer Matt Sorum of Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver fame is in a remote Japanese fishing village trying to save the dolphins.

Sorum is part of a group trying to stop the dolphin hunt in Taiji, a fishing village in central Japan made famous by the 2009 documentary “The Cove.”

The fisherman say the hunt is part of their village’s tradition and Western critics who eat other kinds of meat are hypocritical.

Sorum was one of dozens of Japanese and Western conservationists observing the hunt. Sorum said it was like watching “a bad nightmare” in “a twilight zone.”

Sorum says he hopes to organize a concert to celebrate the dolphin and get the attention of young Japanese.
