KFIX Rock News: Acoustic Album Featuring Queen’s Brian May To Be Released Digitally
A live album featuring performances from a late 2012 U.K. tour that Queen guitarist Brian May mounted with frequent collaborator Kerry Ellis will be released as a digital download in the United States on August 6.
Acoustic by Candlelight (Live in the UK) boasts 15 songs that the duo played together during their Born Free tour.
May and Ellis organized the trek to promote the release of their updated rendition of the theme song to the popular 1966 film Born Free that was issued to raise money for a wildlife conservation charity.
Each show featured Brian accompanying the singer on acoustic guitar on a stage illuminated by candles.
The album includes live versions of “Born Free,” a few Queen tunes, a number of the duo’s original compositions and covers of some of May’s and Ellis’ favorite songs.
Among the tracks on Acoustic by Candlelight are Queen’s “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” George Harrison’s Beatles classic “Something,” Kansas’ “Dust in the Wind” and the Barbra Streisand hit “The Way We Were.”
The record, which already has hit U.K. stores, is being released to coincide with a new series of European Born Free concerts from May and Ellis. Kerry is perhaps best known as the stage actress who originated the role of Meat in the U.K. production of the Queen-themed musical We Will Rock You. She also starred as the Wicked Witch of the West in both London and Broadway productions of Wicked. May and Ellis have worked together numerous times over the last several years, with the Queen guitarist contributing both his musical and production talents to her two solo albums — 2008′s Wicked in Rock and 2010′s Anthems.
