Eagles Win 1st Game in Omaha

American Legion baseball patchThe Hays Eagles American Legion baseball team used three different four-run innings on their way to a 13-3 win, in five innings, over Anchorage Alaska Thursday afternoon in Omaha Nebraska.

The Eagles got the scoring going early, opening with four runs in the first inning. Chandler Rule drove in the first run of the game with an RBI single, scoring Dan Bittel. Then with the bases loaded John Griffith drove in three-runs with a triple giving the Eagles a 4-0 lead.

Chandler Rule added his second RBI with a single in the second inning giving Hays a 5-0 win.

Hays scored four more runs in their half of the third. Jake Sedbrook singled in the first run of the inning, Kyler Niernberger followed with sacrifice fly to left, Clayton Basgall doubled in Sedbrook and Hayden Hutchison singled in Basgall giving Hays a 9-0 lead.

Anchorage took advantage of two Eagles errors in their half of the third scoring three runs to cut Hays’ lead to 9-3.

The Eagles scored four more runs in their half of the fifth. Hays’ Hutchison doubled in two runs, Lane Downing grounded into a double-play that scored Hutchison and John Griffith scored on a passed ball giving the Eagle a 13-3 lead and they would go on to win by that score.

John Griffith was 2-for-3 with 3RBI, Hayden Hutchison was 2-for-4 with 3RBI and Chandler Rule was 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Hutchison earned the win, he allowed three runs, just one earned and struck out seven in five innings.

Eagles are 9-9 on the season and will play Northfield at 3:30 and Omaha Benson at 6:00 Friday in Omaha.
