KFIX Rock News: Lindsey Buckingham Says Fleetwood Mac Recorded Additional Songs During Recent Sessions
Now, singer/guitarist Lindsey Buckingham reveals that he, drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie recorded five other tracks during the same sessions that yielded the Extended Play cuts “Sad Angel,” “It Takes Time” and “Miss Fantasy.”
Buckingham explains to Billboard that “it may be too early to tell where things are going to go” with the extra songs, while adding that “it’s safe to say there is more than these four songs that you’re going to hear from Fleetwood Mac — it’s just a question of how and when.”
Regarding the group’s decision to release an EP rather than a full-length record, Lindsey notes, “When I was growing up, EPs were all over the place. When I was growing up, albums were not really an art form; the single was the thing, and in some ways it has gotten back to that a little bit.”
He also says he finds it “tantalizing to be able to put together just a few things” for release. As for how Fleetwood Mac might decide to release new music in the future, Buckingham says he has “no preconceptions one way or the other in terms of what [the band] will do or…should do.” He adds, “You just do what you can do and what makes sense logically — and politically.”
Meanwhile, Buckingham reports that he’s “having a great time” being back on the road with the group.
“I think we’re playing better, or as well, as we’ve ever played,” maintains Lindsey. He also says that the shows have become “kind of a lovefest” between Stevie Nicks and himself. In addition, Buckingham says he’s been noticing a larger amount of young people coming out to the concerts, while noting that “there seems to be an enhanced appreciation of the body of work.”
“There seem to be a lot of young people at the shows — not that there haven’t been before, but there seem to be more this time,” he says. “So I’m having a great time out there. We’re just killing it out there as far as I’m concerned.”
