Chairman Tim Emert told The Associated Press on Wednesday that the board will re-examine its policy because of a new law lessening restrictions on concealed weapons in public buildings.
Gov. Sam Brownback signed the concealed carry legislation Tuesday. It takes effect in July.
The new law still will allow state universities, community colleges and technical colleges to bar concealed weapons from their buildings only through 2017.
But Emert said he’s confident the regents will modify policy for state universities so that a full ban doesn’t remain in place that long. The regents, Emert says, understand lawmakers approved the concealed carry measure by wide margins.
