Marcellus “Celly” Schmeidler

   Stone Mountain, Georgia – Marcellus ‘Celly” Schmeidler, age 95, former Hays, Kansas, resident died Sunday, April 7, 2013, at his home in Stone Mountain, Georgia.

He was born November 4, 1917, in Catherine, Kansas, to Emil and Catherine, (Dinkel) Schmeidler.

   He was a veteran of the U S Army and served during WWII. He farmed, worked in the oil fields, and then later worked and retired from the building and grounds department at the University of Minnesota. He moved back to Hays, Kansas, in 1990, and then moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia in December of 2011. He was a member of the Hays American Legion.

   Survivors include one sister, Isabella Staab; Sister in law Margerie Schmeidler; and step sister Juanita Hoffman; his care givers, Beverly Brungardt , Mona Fox, Katie Crippen, Joy Edwards, and Jarod Clark and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Joseph, Isadore, Robert, Albert and Elmer Schmeidler; one sister, Mary Ann Lang; and one infant brother, Marcellus Schmeidler and three step sisters Generose Burgman, Lenore Billinger, and Mary Ann Leiker.

   Services are 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 13, 2013, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 18th and Vine, Hays, Kansas. With military honors from the Hays American Legion and V.F.W. Burial in St. Severin Cemetery, Severin, Kansas.

   A vigil service is at 7:00 P.M. Friday at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays 1919 East 22nd Street Hays, Kansas 67601.

   Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday at Cline’s Mortuary of Hays and from 8:30 to 9:45 A.M. Saturday at the church.
