The Fort Hays State softball team ran their winning streak to five with a doubleheader sweep of Lindenwood Saturday afternoon in St. Charles, Missouri. The Tigers were 11-1, five inning run-rule winners in game one then scored the go-ahead run on a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the sixth and win the second contest 3-2. The Tigers are now 27-5 overall and 9-1 in the MIAA. The Lions have lost seven of their last nine and are now 11-17 and 4-8 in the MIAA.
Game 1: #17 Fort Hays State 11, Lindenwood 1 (5 innings)
Maddie Holub (14-1) backed up her no-hitter at Truman the day before with a complete-game one-hitter Saturday against the Lions. The TMP-Marian senior allowed the one run on one hit, striking out nine and walking none.
Amanda Vaupel and Danie Brinkmann both drove in three. Brinkmann had a two-run single in the Tigers five-run fourth. Vaupel added a two-run double in FHSU’s three-run fifth.
Holub added a solo homer, her 14th of the season, in the Tigers two-run second.
Game 2: #17 Fort Hays State 3, Lindenwood 2
Maddie Holub drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs in the sixth inning to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Tigers to the sweep. A Jenna Lang double and two walks loaded the bases for Holub who then recorded the final six outs for her third save of the season.
Holub walked two in the sixth but managed to work out of a bases-loaded jam with two strike outs to end the sixth. Holub induced a grounder to first base to end the game after giving up a two-out double.
Paxton Duran (11-4) picks up the win, allowing two runs on four hits, striking out three and walking three.
The Tigers grabbed an early 2-0 lead, scoring one in the first on a throwing error and one in the second on a Courtney Dobson single.
The Lions scored two in the fifth to tie the game.
