Local Students Accept FHSU Scholarships

HAYS, KS – These local students accepted scholarships from Fort Hays State University for the 2013-2014 academic year at a recent Student Recognition Program in Hays.Fhsu entrance

Ellis (67637): Shea Harper, a 2013 Ellis High School graduate, accepted a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award. She is the daughter of Krista Schreider, Ellis.

Ellis (67637): Cadyn McCoy, a 2013 Ellis High School graduate, accepted a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in allied health. McCoy is the son of Casey McCoy and Lonna Henry, Ellis. He plans to major in radiologic technology.

Ellis (67637): Jared Mick, a 2013 Ellis High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science and a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Mick is the son of Perry and Maria Mick, Ellis. He plans to major in mathematics education.

Ellis (67637): Jordan Rohr, a 2013 Ellis High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in physics and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Rohr is the son of Doug and Terri Rohr, Ellis. He plans to major in physics.

Ellis (67637): Harley Wright, a 2013 Ellis High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship. Wright is the son of Nan Brown, Ellis. He plans to major in finance.

Hays (67601): Jenna Ball, a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $2,000 Ralph and Lucile Hunter Scholarship, a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in biology and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Ball is the daughter of Rex and Deb Ball, Hays. She plans to major in biology.

Hays (67601): Megan Bird, a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in chemistry and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Bird is the daughter of Tom and Cinda Bird, Hays. She plans to major in chemistry.

Munjor (67601): Emily Braun, a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in agriculture. Braun is the daughter of Cindy Braun, Munjor.

Victoria (67671): Joshua Brungardt, a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in health and human performance and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Brungardt is the son of Brian Brungardt, Bison, and Krista Brungardt, Victoria. He plans to major in health and human performance.

Hays (67601): Faith Burdine, a 2013 Hays High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in psychology and a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award. Burdine is the daughter of Riley Burdine, West Unity, Ohio, and Debbie Herrman, Hays. She plans to major in psychology.

Hays (67601): Chelsea Zimmerman, a 2013 Thomas More Prep-Marian High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in education and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Zimmerman is the granddaughter of Leroy and Linda Riedel, Hays. She plans to major in elementary education.

Hays (67601): Chloe Zimmerman, a 2013 Thomas More Prep-Marian High School graduate, accepted a $900 Academic Opportunity Award in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship and an $800 Hays City Silver Academic Award. Zimmerman is the daughter of James and Carla Zimmerman, Hays. She plans to major in accounting.

Victoria (67671): Dylan Gasper, a 2013 Victoria High School graduate, accepted a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in technology studies. Gasper is the son of Troy and Amy Gasper, Victoria. He plans to major in technology studies.

Victoria (67671): Sarah Kuhn, a 2013 Victoria High School graduate, accepted a $700 Fort Hays Bronze Academic Award and a $500 Academic Opportunity Award in nursing. Kuhn is the daughter of Joe and Diane Kuhn, Victoria. She plans to major in nursing.

Scholarship awards announced at each year’s FHSU Student Recognition Programs are the first set of scholarships for the following academic year to be announced by the university. High school juniors and seniors and transfer students in Kansas, Colorado and Nebraska are invited to the event nearest them. Thirteen SRPs are conducted, 11 of them in cities across Kansas – from Garden City in the west to Kansas City in the east – plus one in Denver, Colo., and one in Holdrege, Neb. They are conducted from January to March each year.
