The Fort Hays State Tigers hit 10 three-pointers, but it wasn’t enough to overcome 19 turnovers and lose 76-70 to Washburn at Lee Arena in Topeka. The loss snaps the Tigers seven-game win streak and drops them to 17-7 and 11-5 in the MIAA where they fall into a second-place tie with the Ichabods who are now 18-6 and also 11-5 in the conference.
The Tigers hit 10-of-21 three’s, six from Ben Congiusta and four from Carson Konrade. Congiusta led the Tigers with 20 points, Konrade added 15. Craig Nicholson scored 11 and had five assists and five turnovers.
Will McNeill scored a game-high 28 to lead Washburn. The senior All-American hit 10-of-12 free throws.
Washburn led by four at the half and pushed the lead to six before an 11-5 Tiger run tied the game at 47. The Tigers last lead was a 59-58 when the Ichabods went on a 8-3 run to take the lead for good. They have now won five straight over the Tigers taking the season series.
