The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers were held 21-percent shooting, including 0-for-12 from three-point range, and lose to No. 5 Washburn 61-41 Saturday night at Lee Arena in Topeka. The loss snaps the Lady Tigers six-game win streak and drops them to 18-6 overall and 10-6 in the MIAA. The Lady Blues, who moves to 14-0 at home, wins their 10th straight and improves to 21-3 overall and 14-1 in the MIAA.
Fort Hays State held a couple of early leads, but Washburn used a 17-4 first half run to go up 12. The Lady Tigers scored eight straight to pull within four but would get no closer.
The Lady Blues defense held FHSU to just four second half field goals. The Lady Tigers did hit 21 of 27 free throws and were led by Kate Lehman’s 22 points, five rebounds and six blocked shots. Kate Edwards scored nine and Tera Inglesbee added eight.
Laura Kinderknecht scored 18 to lead Washburn who shot 50-percent in the second half and hit 7-of-12 from 3-point range.
