The Fort Hays State Tigers hit eight straight free throws in the final 45-seconds to hold off Northwest Missouri State’s second half comeback bid and beat the Bearcats 64-60 Wednesday night in Maryville. The Tigers have now won six-straight and improve to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in the MIAA where they are tied for first with Central Missouri.
The Tigers raced out to an 8-0 lead and led by as many 16 in the first half. They had a 14 point lead early in the second half, but the Bearcats rallied to take their biggest lead of two with 2:15 to play. Craig Nicholson hit a 3-pointer to put the Tigers back in front and they would only trail one more time the rest of the way.
Lance Russell, who four key free throws down the stretch, led the Tigers with 22 points. Craig Nicholson added 21 and Dwayne Brunson 10, all in the first half.
