The Fort Hays State University Lady Tigers moved to 6-0 with a 63-43 win over UT-Permian Basin on Saturday in Topeka. The game was closer that the 20 point final margin indicates. The Tigers trailed 4-2 early, used a 11-3 run to grab a six point lead mid way through the first half. The Falcons got within in 3 late in the first half before Beth Buhuslavsky hit a trey. The Tigers led 34-27 at half time.
The Tigers used a 11-0 run at the beginning of the second half pushing their lead to 16, but the Falcons responded with a 9-2 run closing within eight. FHSU closed the game on a 16-4 run that featured back to back Kai Brown trey’s, another Buhuslavasky three and a three point play from Katelyn Edwards.
The Lady Tigers shot just 29% from the floor and made only 5 of 19 three point field goals, but shot 22-25 from the free throw line to offset the off night shooting.
Edwards scored a game high 16. Kate Lehman had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Lehman also blocked four shots, moving in to fourth all time at FHSU with 124 and now has 28 on the season.
Next action for the Lady Tigers in December 5th as they open MIAA play against Central Missouri at Gross Memorial Coliseum. Tip is set for 5:30.
