It could have gone better for Hays on Friday in New Orleans, in fact it could have gone much better. Six errors over the first two innings put the Eagles in a 6-0 nothing hole that they could not recover from losing to Retif Oil out of New Orleans 10-0 in run rule game after seven innings.
Retif scored two in the first inning following a bobbled double play that would have ended the game. Hays committed two errors in the first inning and four in the second. The four second inning errors allowed a one run inning turn into four runs.
Hays had their best chance to score in the bottom of the first inning when Austin Unrein reached on an error and Casey Sebrook singled on a bunt. Riley Kaus moved both runners ninety feet on a sacrifice bunt but the next to but the next two batter popped up to short left field to end the inning.
Hays would get runners aboard in every inning except for the sixth but not advance any of those runners past first base until the seventh when Zack Legleiter walked and Trevor Henningson singled.
Hays could manage only two hits, while Retif banged out ten.
Hays committed six errors, Retif had one in the first inning. Neither team had committed an error on the first day and were the only teams not to do so.
Starter Tyler Woolridge lost his first game of the summer (9-1) giving up ten runs and seven hits over five innings work, walking seven and striking out one. Taylor Renz pitched the final two innings allowing no runs and three hits.
Hays drops to 46-9, Retif is now 34-6.
Retif moves on to play the other Louisiana representative, Hahnville as the only two undefeated teams in the tournament.
Hays will play on Saturday and try to hold off elimination as they play Piedmont, Oklahoma at 4:00 on 96.9 KFIX.
After day two of regional action Bryant, Arkansas and Washington, Missouri have been eliminated.
