KFIX Rock News: Randy Bachman Tells Of Les Paul Enounter

NEW YORK (AP) – Randy Bachman knows Les Paul had a long memory. When Bachman was 16, he was refused admittance to a Les Paul show because he was underage.

As he was waiting for the bus to go home, Paul pulled up and promised to get him in. Paul arranged for Bachman to watch from the kitchen, where no liquor was served. He even showed Bachman the “How High The Moon” lick.

Decades later Bachman was opening for Van Halen and Paul came into the dressing room and recognized him. He asked if Bachman still remembered the lick and he did.

Paul invited Bachman to his house, but he never made it, because that day was 9/11.

Bachman never saw Paul again.
