Water Restriction Violators Face Potential Fines

As the drought lingers, Hays residents are reminded of the restrictions on outdoor watering. Police Lt. Brandon Wright says there are penalties for violating the ban on outdoor watering from noon until seven pm.

The initial report is logged, and the property owner is issued a warning. A second offense is a $50 fine, third is $200 and the fourth offense costs $250.

    1. The city should do a better job of informing our new residents of city policies instead of waiting until they violate them to confront them.

    2. The city needs to follow its own policies. They are no different than its citizens.

    3. Actually enforce this policy. I see residents and businesses violating this on a consistent basis.

  6. text hays to 888-777. you get updates on stuff around our town road work city meetings. people should be pro active for info. not just complain when theyre not spoon fed.

  7. The City of Hays does not furnish information when one signs up for water service?
    There are several city parks which when watered causes great amounts of water wasted down the curb/gutter because of lack of maintenance to the sprinkler system

    The information could easily be included with the monthly utility bills from the City. That’s what my community does and many others print important messages (notices) on their utility bills.
