KFIX Rock News: Upcoming Hendrix Movie Reportedly Won’t Have Hendrix Music

NEW YORK (AP) – There will be no Jimi Hendrix music in a movie about Jimi Hendrix. The Hendrix estate is refusing to allow his songs to be used in the film “All Is By My Side.”

Rolling Stone reports the filmmakers are getting around that by only using songs Hendrix covered, not wrote. That includes songs like “Wild Thing,” “Hound Dog,” “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and the Muddy Waters song “Mannish Boy.”

Andre 3000 of OutKast plays Hendrix and sings the new versions.

The film’s producers say they never intended to use Hendrix’s music because it’s about his early career.

A representative for the Hendrix estate says making a Hendrix movie without Hendrix music is “like making a movie about Lincoln without being able to use the Gettysburg Address.”
