Legislative Races are Set After Monday’s Deadline

Monday at noon was the deadline for Democrats and Republicans to file for Kansas House and Senate seats.

Dozens of newcomers filed, and several legislators opted not to run again. Also, several Kansas House members launched campaigns for the state Senate.

Locally there are three candidates for the 110th House District; Democrat Philip Martin of Ellis and Republicans Lawrence Reichert of Hays and Travis Couture-Lovelady of Palco.

For the 111th District, Democrat Eber Phelps has filed to retain his position. He will be challenged by Republican Sue Boldra.

There are three candidates for the 40th Senate District, which now covers all ofNorthwest Kansas includingEllisCounty. Allen Schmidt of Hays, John Miller of Norton and Ralph Ostmeyer of Grinnell are all seeking the seat.
