Leadership Hays Class Raises More Than $5,000 For Area Children

Members of the 2011 Leadership Hays class raised $5,560 during the month of June to benefit two very important youth programs in Hays and Ellis County. Members of the class sold tickets to win an “Instant Wine Cellar” to raise funds to purchase new breast pumps and supplies  for the Hays LaLeche League chapter and I Spy books for the High Plains Mental Health Center.

Angela Smitherman from Ellis was the lucky winner. Her winning ticket was drawn Saturday night at the Wild West Festival in Hays.

To raise money for these projects, each member of the Leadership Hays 2011 class donated bottles of wine and solicited wine donations from area liquor stores. More than 100 bottles of wine were collected, along with a wine rack and other wine-related accessories.

Leadership Hays is a project of the Hays Area Chamber of Commerce. The mission of Leadership Hays is to improve and strengthen individuals and the Hays community by identifying, inspiring, and involving those persons who have displayed a capacity for leadership.
