Just after 4 a.m., crews from the Topeka Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 2600 SW Belle Avenue, according to department spokesperson Rosie Nichols.

Crews found smoke and flames coming from the rear of the residence. Firefighters performed a primary search and located one occupant, who they rescued from the house. Crews extinguished the fire and kept it contained to the residence.

The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental; due to an electrical issue. There were no injuries. The total loss from the fire was approximately $100,000, with approximately $80,000 associated with structural loss and approximately $20,000 associated with content loss. The home did not have working smoke detectors, according to Nichols.
