FHSU’s next Science Café on retroviruses set for April 29

Fort Hays State University’s next Science Café will be held on Monday, April 29.

This month’s presentation, “Endogenous retroviruses: Hidden hitchhikers and how they spread,”” is sponsored by FHSU’s Science and Mathematics Education Institute (SMEI). The event begins at 7 p.m. at The Venue in Thirsty’s Brew Pub & Grill, 2704 Vine.

Dr. Eric Gillock, professor of biological sciences at FHSU, will discuss how endogenous retroviruses are genetic parasites found within the genomes of most eukaryotic cells. Like some unwanted house guests, they show up uninvited and never leave.
